The Present Perfect Tense: Closed Questions & Short Answers


Grammar - The Present Perfect Tense: Closed Questions ➤ Yes/No

For closed questions (for the responses: yes and no), we use have, haven't, has and hasn't.

  • HAVE + SUBJ. + (ever) + V3 ... ?
  • Yes, + SUBJ. + HAVE
  • HAVE + SUBJ. ... V3 ... ?
  • No, + SUBJ. + NEG. HAVE
  • HAVEhave/has
  • Yes, + I/you/we/they + have.
  • Have you ever been to France?
  • Yes, I have.
  • No, + I/you/we/they + haven't.
  • Have they ever seen a lion?
  • No, they haven't.
  • Yes, + he/she/it + has.
  • Has he ever climbed a mountain?
  • Yes, he has.
  • No, + he/she/it + hasn't.
  • Has she ever flown in a plane?
  • No, she hasn't.
