Be in the Present Simple Tense: am/are/is


Usage - Be

We use the verb be with nouns, adjectives, prepositions, the continuous tenses and the passive voice.

  • BE + NOUN
  • BE + ADJECTIVE
  • BE + PREPOSITION

Grammar - Be: am/are/is

In the present simple tense, be has the forms am, are and is.

For I, we use am.

For You, We and They, we use are.

For He, She and It, we use is.

  • SUBJECT + BE
  • BEam/are/is
  • I + am
  • I am a doctor.
  • You/We/They + are
  • You are happy.
  • He/She/It + is
  • He is at work.

Examples - Be: am/are/is

Be Careful!

  • NAME = She/He
  • Tom is OK.
  • He is OK.
  • NOUN = It
  • The car is good.
  • It is good.
  • 2 NAMES = They
  • Tom and Jerry are angry.
  • They are angry.
  • 2 NOUNS = They
  • The dogs are on the floor.
  • They are on the floor.
