Be: Open Questions in the Present Simple Tense

Be comes before the subject in questions.

For open questions (questions with many possible answers), we use a question word.

  • Q. + BE + SUBJECT + ?
  • BEam/are/is
  • Q. + am + I + ?
  • Where am I?
  • You're on London Bridge/in Rome/... .
  • Q. + are + you/we/they + ?
  • How are you?
  • I'm OK/fine/very well/... .
  • Q. + is + he/she/it + ?
  • Where is he?
  • He's at home/at work/upstairs/... .
