Grammar - Be: Negatives

We often contract the negatives are not and is not into aren't and isn't.

  • SUBJECT + NEGATIVE BE
  • am not 'm not
  • I + 'm not
  • I'm not an engineer.
  • are not aren't/'re not
  • You/We/They + aren't
  • You aren't bad.
  • is not isn't/'s not
  • He/She/It + isn't
  • He isn't at home.

Examples - Be: Negative Contractions

S. + NEG. CONT....
I'm nota doctor.
You aren'tbad.
He isn'tat work.
She isn'tin Boston.
It isn'ta book.
We aren'tin the library.
They aren'tbusy.

We can contract the negatives are not and is not into 're not and 's not.

S. + NEG. CONT....
I'm nota doctor.
You're notbad.
He's notat work.
She's notin Boston.
It's nota book.
We're notin the library.
They're notbusy.
