The Present Continuous Tense: Open Questions

Be comes before the subject in questions.

For open questions (questions with many possible answers), we use a question word.

  • Q. + BE + SUBJECT + INFINITIVE-ing ... ?
  • BEam/are/is
  • Q. + am + I + INFINITIVE-ing ... ?
  • How am I doing now?
  • You're doing well/great/fine/... .
  • Q. + are + you/we/they + INFINITIVE-ing ... ?
  • Where are they fishing right now?
  • They're fishing by the river right now.
  • Q. + is + he/she/it + INFINITIVE-ing ... ?
  • What is he reading at the moment?
  • He's reading a book at the moment.
