The Present Continuous Tense: Verb Forms


Usage - The Present Continuous Tense

We use the present continuous tense (present progressive tense) for temporary actions that are happening now or around now.

We also use the present continuous tense for future arrangements.

Grammar - The Present Continuous Tense

We use the verb be and the present participle (infinitive + -ing).

For I, we use am.

For You, We and They, we use are.

For He, She and It, we use is.

  • SUBJECT + BE + INFINITIVE-ing
  • BEam/are/is
  • I + am + INFINITIVE-ing
  • I am working now.
  • You/We/They + are + INFINITIVE-ing
  • They are fishing at the moment.
  • He/She/It + is + INFINITIVE-ing
  • He is reading right now.
