We often contract the negatives was not and were not into wasn't and weren't.

  • was not wasn't
  • I/He/She/It + wasn't + INF.-ing
  • I wasn't sleeping when he called.
  • were not weren't
  • You/We/They + weren't + INF.-ing
  • We weren't fishing when we saw it.
