Indefinite Pronouns: one/ones


Usage - Indefinite Pronouns: one/ones

We substitute one for a singular noun that has already been mentioned.

We substitute ones for a plural noun that has already been mentioned.

One and ones are not the number 1.

We often use one and ones with an adjective.

  • To substitute a previously mentioned noun
  • To define an adjective

Grammar - one/ones

  • SINGULAR NOUN one
  • PLURAL NOUNones
  • the + ADJECTIVE + one = it ✔

Examples - one/ones

  • I saw a big cat and a small cat. The small one was very cute.
  • I bought 2 red apples and 2 green apples. The red ones were very sweet.
