Determiners: some/any/a little/a few


Grammar - Determiners

For plural nouns and uncountable nouns, we use any for questions and negative statements, and we use some for positive statements.

We use a few with plural nouns and a little with uncountable nouns.

  • QUESTION ? /NEGATIVE ⧿ : any
  • POSITIVE : some
  • any/some + PLURAL/UNCOUNTABLE NOUN
  • Have you got any apples?
  • Yes, I've got some apples.
  • Have you got any sugar?
  • No, I haven't got any sugar.
  • a few + PLURAL NOUN
  • Have you got any apples?
  • Yes, I've got a few apples.
  • a little + UNCOUNTABLE NOUN
  • Have you got any milk?
  • Yes, I've got a little milk.
