The Present Simple Tense: Be vs Verbs


Usage - BE

We use the verb be with nouns, adjectives and prepositions.

We use the present simple for facts and routines.

In the present simple we do not use be with other verbs.

  • BE + NOUN
  • I am a doctor.
  • BE + ADJECTIVE
  • You are happy.
  • BE + PREPOSITION
  • He is at work.
  • BE + VERB
  • I am play football.
  • I play football.
