Grammar - Determiners

For plural nouns and uncountable nouns, we use any for questions and negative statements, and we use some for positive statements.

  • QUESTION ? /NEGATIVE ⧿ : any
  • Have you got any glasses?
  • No, I haven't got any glasses.
  • POSITIVE : some
  • any/some + PLURAL NOUN
  • Have you got any cups?
  • Yes, I've got some cups.
  • any/some + UNCOUNTABLE NOUN
  • Have you got any water?
  • Yes, I've got some water.
  • Have you got any sugar?
  • No, I haven't got any sugar.
