Can / Could

We use can and the infinitive for abilities and to say something is possible or permitted:

Subject	can	Infinitive
I	can	swim	500m.
You	can	get	a 30 day visa.
He	can	drive	well.
She	can	take	20 days holiday.
We	can	meet	at 3.
They	can	play	in the garden.

The negative of can is can't:

She	can't	take	a 6 month holiday.
We	can't	meet	at 3.

The past of can is could:

You	could	get	a 6 month visa	2 years ago.
He	could	sing	well	when he was young.
She	could	take	10 days holiday	last month.
We	could	see	it	yesterday.
