Il uso - Cose in comune: both/neither

Possiamo usare la parola both per cose positive in comune e neither per cose negative in comune.

  • State that 2 people are the same or do the same thing
  • Things in common
  • both: for 2 POSITIVES ⧾⧾
  • neither: for 2 NEGATIVES ⧿⧿

Grammatica - Stesso/In comune: both ⧾⧾

  • SUBJ. PRON. + both + VERB...
  • Sara likes dogs and I like dogs.
  • We both like dogs.

Grammatica - Stesso/In comune: neither ⧿⧿

  • Neither of + OBJ. PRON. + VERB ...
  • Tom doesn't like dogs and Jerry doesn't like dogs.
  • Neither of them like dogs.

Esempi - Cose Positive in Comune

  • Sara likes dogs and I like dogs. We both like dogs.
  • Tom likes cheese and Jerry likes cheese. They both like cheese.

Esempi - Cose Negative in Comune

  • Sara doesn't like cats and I don't like cats. Neither of us like cats.
  • Tom doesn't like dogs and Jerry doesn't like dogs. Neither of them like dogs.

⚠ Attenzione!

  • In informal speech people often use the 3rd PERSON VERB with neither of us and neither of them:
  • Neither of us like cats. ✔
  • Neither of us likes cats. ✔ (informal)
