Comparative Adjectives


기능 - 비교급 형용사

비교급 형용사는 두 명사 또는 활동을 비교하는 데 사용합니다.

  • SUBJECT > OBJECT
  • 주어 > 목적어

문법 - 형용사 wth 1 음절

1음절 형용사의 경우 -er 을 추가하고 than 을 사용하여 두 명사 또는 활동을 비교합니다.

  • SUBJ. + BE + ADJ.-er + than + OBJ.
  • tall → taller
  • Giraffes are taller than dogs.

문법 - 자음-모음-자음

형용사가 자음-모음-자음 (CVC) 소리로 끝나고 마지막 자음이 홑자음인 경우, 마지막 자음을 하나 더 쓰고 -er 을 추가합니다.

  • 1 syllable with CVC sounds:
  • big → bigger
  • Elephants are bigger than cats.

문법 - "-y" 로 끝나는 2 음절

-y 로 끝나는 두 음절 단어의 경우 -y 를 -ier 로 바꿉니다.

  • friendly → friendlier
  • Dogs are friendlier than snakes.

문법 - 2/3/... 음절 Not Ending in "-y"

2음절 이상의 다른 형용사의 경우, 형용사 앞에 more 를 사용하고 2개의 명사 또는 동작를 비교하기 위해 than 를 사용합니다.

  • SUBJ. + BE + more + ADJ. + than + OBJ.
  • more ex-pen-sive than
  • Gold is more expensive than silver.
